Tips to Help You Keep Our
Waterways Clean

"Take Action!"
"Be Responsible!"

"Decide to be part of the solution, not the problem!"

Trash

Always retrieve trash that goes into the wate.  Recycle all cans, glass, plastics, and monofilament fishing line.

Do not throw fish waste into shallow or marina waters,

always discard in deep water or in the trash can.

Limit the plastic and packaging you bring on board.

Sewage
Use restrooms on shore prior to departure.

Always use approved Marine Sanitation Devices(MSDs)
           underway.
Pump out and rinse holding tanks regularly.

Use enzyme products for odor control and reducing
solids in holding tanks.

Never discharge raw sewage in U.S. territorial waters.

Fueling and Spills
Know how much your  tanks hold and fill with caution.

Fuel expands as it warms-do not top off.

Fill trailerboat tanks before launchingthe boat along
with other portable gas tanks.

Keep engine tuned and watch for leaking seals, gaskets,  hoses and fuel lines.

Plan for spills-keep absorbant material at hand.

Vessel Maintenance
Choose phosphate- free, biological and non toxic
cleaners.

Try and do major cleaning and maintenance tasks when boat
is out of water.

Use drop clothes when sanding and scraping-collect
paint chips, dust, and other residue and dispose of
properly.

Use alternative cleaners.  Baking soda, lemon juice and vinegar can all perform as well as commercial cleaning products without the harmful byproducts.

Use environmentally safe anti-fouling paints and follow
manufacturer's  instructions.
Recycle used zincs.

Dispose of drained oil and any spent or spilled coolant
at appropriate recycling centers when performing
mainrenance.
